Refleciton on NASC Discussion Series 71

NASC Discussion Series 71 was organized by Center for Research and Development on 27th May 2022 on the topic “Eastern Philosophies in the Context of Modern Governance: A Case of Nepal”. Mr. Dev Raj Dahal was the speaker in the series. Mr. Dahal is member of Board of Trustee of Gurukul, Nepal College of Management, former head at Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Nepal until May 2017, former associate professor of political science at Tribhuvan University. He is an author of books like: Decentralization and Development: An Exercise Towards the Devolution of Power in Nepal (Kathmandu: NEFAS, 1994); Challenges to Good Governance: Decentralization in Nepal (Kathmandu: GDS, 1996); State, Society and Development Nepal (Kathmandu: IIDS, 1998); Civil Society in Nepal: Opening the Ground for Questions (Kathmandu: CDG, 2001); Bergh of Foundation for Peace Support Nepal: Supporting Peace Process Through a Berlin, 2005 Systemic Approach United Nations Development Program, Civil Society Groups in Nepal: Their Roles in Conflict and Peace building, (UNDP), April 20, 2006. Mr. Trilochan Pokharel, Sr. Director of Studies and department head of ‘Governance and Development Management Learning Group’ moderated the event.

Having a long tradition and evolution, the eastern philosophies, unlike the western, have a unique way of explaining, understanding and propositions about society, politics, economics, culture and religion. In the 71st edition of NASC Discussion Series, speaker highlighted key aspects of changes in roles of bureaucracy, political parties and communities along with their goals over the time. This sharing also focused on how the global paradigm shift in governance is happening and how it has changed service delivery in the context of Nepal.

The event was attended by 42 participants of NASC including Dr. Rajan Khanal, Executive Director, Mr. Bishnu Prasad Lamsal, Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Anand Dhakal, Sr. Director of Studies, Mr. Tulasi Sharan Sigdel, Sr. Director of Studies and other faculties.
