Press note of seminar on 'The Role of IT in Aviation Industry Business Performance' by MDP-CAAN

'Group A’ presentation started by session chair Mr. Mohan Giri and welcome to Expert guests, facilitators and audiences includes CAAN MDP participants. The group topic was “The Role of Information Technology in Aviation Industry Business Performance” presented first part by Mr. Bisnu Prasad Adhikari and followed by second part Er. Promod Kumar Chaudhary. Mr. Ganesh Bahadur Sing was in Modular/Commenter role, Mr. Chhabi Singh Thakulla performs the responsibility of event manager and Ms. Saraswoti Budha Gosain was rapporteur for the session. There was one commenter from each group includes Dipak Ojha, Nirajan Acharya, Narayan Shrestha and Binaya Giri. The Venue was Prithivi Hall, Dikchya Sadan NASC, Jawolakhel.

The aviation industry is a major global employer investing heavily in digital technologies to lead streamlined operation to improve punctuality, cost effective, enhance client satisfaction, perform aviation function effectively, efficiently to monitor real time data and their analysis. It facilitated global connectivity and accessibility, enabling seamless travel experiences. Airport Operations can be divided into four types: landside operations, airside operations, billing and invoicing operations and information management.

Information Technology based supporting system in air ATM includes: Air traffic control, communication, navigation and surveillance, airspace management, air traffic flow management, collaborative decision making and automation technology.

Case study has been presented on Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM)/Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM) and Aeronautical Information Management (AIM)/Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) automation. The role of ATFM is to monitor demand, capacity and constraints at airport and airspaces. ATFM processes optimize capacity of airport and airspace. ACDM is a process based on improved real time information sharing between all stakeholders. ACDM is an integral part of ATFM process. AIM is defined as the dynamic integrated management of aeronautical information through the provision and exchange of quality assured digital aeronautical data in collaboration with all parties.

Information Technology has challenges and opportunities in Aviation Industry, which are mainly cyber security and its threats, integrating new technology with updated system and availability of training and adopting changes for work force. There are opportunities as well to make ease by Artificial intelligence, internet of things, application, blockchain for secure and transparent transactions.

Mr. Kashinath Poudel, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, shared his experiences to implement IT in aviation industry and emphasizing the role of IT to enhance system and customer satisfaction.
Mr. Baldev Prasad Joshi, Director of Studies, Nepal Administrative Staff College Nepal Administrative Staff College and Director of Studies, highlighted role of IT in aviation business, which is being challenging day by day due to development of system engineering, their implementation and availability of trained human resource. IT system in aviation industry which are rapidly upgrading in technology becomes expensive that cannot be forecast
Mr. Taraprasad Kharel, a faculty member, Deputy Director of Studies, and Course Coordinator at the Nepal Administrative Staff College, addressed the four pillars of IT i.e. hardware, software, infrastructure and trained human resource to implement and enhance the services in aviation business.

There were questions and answers sessions on the presentation “The Role of Information Technology in Aviation Industry Business Performance”. The ‘Goup A’ team members answered the queries of the participants. The session chair Mr. Mohan Giri has concluded the presentation with the vote of thanks to all experts, facilitator, coordinators and audience participants on behalf of ‘Group A’ CAAN MDP.
