
Lalitpur, 21st Magh, 2082 — Nepal Administrative Staff College (NASC) inaugurated a three-day Training Program on Environmental & Social Management Framework (ESMF) for officials of the Department of Roads (DoR) at Rara Hall, Dikshya Sadan, today.
The training program is being organized by the Centre for Climate Change, Governance and Development Management Learning Group of NASC. The primary objective of the program is to equip officials of the Department of Roads with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to effectively apply the updated Environmental & Social Management Framework (ESMF) throughout all phases of road and bridge projects, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
The inauguration session was graced by representatives from the World Bank, including Mr. Haileyesus Adamtei, Task Team Leader; Mr. Prem Prakash Khatri, Transport Specialist; and Ms. Gloriya Mahanana, Senior Sociologist, who highlighted the importance of integrating environmental and social safeguards in infrastructure development to ensure sustainability and inclusiveness.
Representing the Department of Roads, Dr. Bijay Jaisi, Director General, Er. Ahhiman Das Mulmi, Unit Chief, GESU, and Mr. Manoj Aryal, Environment Inspector, GESU, emphasized the relevance of the training in strengthening institutional capacity and improving compliance with national and international environmental and social standards in road sector projects.
The session was chaired by Mr. Tulasi Sharan Sigdel, Senior Director of Studies and Head of the Governance and Development Management Learning Group, NASC, who underlined NASC’s continued commitment to capacity building in climate-resilient and socially responsible infrastructure development.
