Leadership and Management Conference 2024 by Team 1 on "Forged in Fire: Shaping Tomorrow’s Military Leaders"

The Nepal Administrative Staff College (NASC) conducted Leadership and Management Conference 2024 for participants of Army Command and Staff College undergoing Leadership and Management training. Team 1 successfully conducted the conference on December 19, 2024, under the central theme of  “Reimagining Leadership” and the topic of discussion was ‘Forged in Fire: Shaping Tomorrow’s Military Leaders’.

The conference featured presentation by distinguished officers,

  • Major Sujan Khadka – Evolution of Military Leadership
  • Major Suman Bikram Shah – Key Traits of Tomorrow Military Leadership
  • Major Sajan Silwal – Leadership Challenges in the Future and Leadership Framework
  • Major Sudip Sunar – Reimagined Leadership

The presenter explored the evolution of military leadership, expressing that leaders are amalgamation of both born and made, they educated the participants on key traits of tomorrow’s military leadership, highlighted that rapid technological advancements being the major leadership challenge in contemporary environment, suggested 3 C’s; Competence, Caring and Conviction as leadership framework, finally consolidated with the need of reimagined leadership due to unpredictable challenges, evolving workforce and complex decision-making.

Major Motiram Khatri critically analyzed the presentation and presented his critique wherein he highlighted the need for expanding training models to systematically develop the key leadership traits, necessity of the means to assess the effective leadership qualities and the need to address the current gaps in existing leadership framework.

The rigorous Q&A session delved into real world scenario based questions. The participants question covered technological aspect concerning rapid growth in technology, need of moral courage and challenges in decision-making. The responses emphasized the significance of ethics, values, and adaptive situational leadership.

Captain Sudeep Raj Giri, the chair of the conference, concluded the session highlighting that adversity shapes characters. He emphasized that leadership is a responsibility and shaping future leaders is in our hands as they learn from our actions, decisions and ability to embrace change. Finally, he extended gratitude to the paper presenters, commenters, faculty and all the participants for making the conference a grand success.
