International Course on

Disaster Risk Management: Experience from Nepal Earthquake 2015

Course Objectives

The course will have three pronged objectives. First, it will enhance fundamental knowledge and competency on disaster governance with better theoretical understanding. Second, the course will share Nepal’s experience in disaster governance in response to 25 April 2015 earthquake. Third, it will provide an exposure visit to the disaster affected area and learn from community experiences on disaster risk management. 

Course Contents

The course contents include the following modules:  

Module 1: Fundamentals of Disaster Risk Management

Module 2: Disaster Governance and International Instruments

Module 3: Disaster Governance in Nepal: Lessons from Nepal Earthquake 2015

Module 4: Community Based Disaster Risk Management

Module 5: Field visit: 4.25 Earthquake Epi-centre,    Barpak, Gorkha 

Target Participants

The course is open to all national and international participants working on public sector, development agencies, training institutions and academic institutions and are responsible for disaster governance or aspiring to take roles in the future.

The course welcomes participants from all geographic areas, however the class size is limited to 25 persons. NASC accepts nomination on a first come first served basis provided the applicant meets the course requirement.

25 April –  8 May 2016

Course fee

The standard course fee of USD 2, 500 covers the course tuition, learning materials, accommodation with breakfast, working days lunch, meeting package, study visits and airport transfer. Participants will be responsible for their international travel expenses and arrangements, visa application, lunch and dinners on holidays, health and accident insurance, and other personal expenses.

Pre-course information will be sent to participants once they have been accepted to the course.

Cancellation  

If you are unable to attend, a substitute applicant is welcome to attend in your place, provided the participation criteria described above have been met. Cancellation of attendance should be notified at least three weeks prior to course commencement; in which case, 15 percent of the course fee will be deducted for banking charges and administrative costs.
