Research and Development (R&D) activities of emerging countries have increased considerably with 8.6% per annum in real terms during 1992-2010, compared to the growth rate of the (OECD) countries of 2.8%.  In this backdrop, the speaker will share his findings on idea production and international knowledge spillovers based on his rigorous research on the topic. This talk will also focus on new idea formation, R&D co-operation and international knowledge spillovers and its vital role for economic success of emerging countries. The lessons from his study will be beneficial for countries like Nepal whose plan is to graduate to developing countries by 2022.

Prof. Dr. Kul Luintel is a Professor of Economics at Cardiff Business School and the Head of Economics during 2012- 2015. He received MA (1981) from Tribhuvan University and MPhil (1990) and PhD (1993) from University of Glasgow. Before joining academia, he worked for Nepal Rastra Bank. Prof Luintel is an applied economist cum econometrician. His general research interests are macroeconomics, finance and growth.
