Centre for Governance and State Management (CGSM)

The centre is committed to work on governance and state management issues including development management for strengthening managerial capabilities of the authorities involved in governance and development activities. It mainly aims to provide professional and institutional capacity building services through training, research and consulting services to the public entities, local governments, and other stakeholders in state management including non-governmental developmental agencies. Specific objectives include:

•       Assess and identify professional capacity building needs in the broader areas of governance and state management

•       Develop and review periodically the training courseson governance and state management including development management and contemporary governance issues

•       Prepare training delivery calendar and deliver  the long-duration (in-service) and short-duration (tailor-made) training courses on regular and on-demand basis

•       Ensure adequate support to training, research, consulting and other activities assigned by the department, and maintain their quality

•       Produce and timely submit progress and assignments completion reports to the concerned departments

The major functions of the learning group are described below, respectively in functional and thematic streams:

Functional Streams

CGSM has four core functional streams in the areas governance and state management, are as follows:

•       Carryout training/learning needs assessments for designing appropriate capacity building products

•       Organizing capacity building programmes— training, workshops and seminars

•       Provide consultancy services on the thematic streams of the centre

•       Carry out research on the issues of service delivery, governance and other related issues

•       State management at national and local in Federal context
